The good 5
Food & drinkPointe aux Piments, west coast
A Korean honeymooner missing spicy food at home had a special menu cooked by the resort's chef. Their butler made them call it the best service of their life.
“making a special menu for me who misses Korean food and likes spicy food”
Honeymooner · Tripadvisor review · Apr 2025 · Read the original
Hotel servicePalmar, east coast
What stayed with them was breakfast: a sea view, a Bucks Fizz, and a waiter who made them feel at home.
“lovely to wake up to such happy smiley service”

Peace & quietEast coast
East-coast resorts are huge and isolated, with cane fields and a lane to the next hotel. That's perfect for hiding away, but pick the north-west (Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches) or Flic en Flac if you want to eat out.
“The east is good for that get away from it all feeling.”
Regular visitor · Tripadvisor forum · Jan 2020 · Read the original
Weather
A long-time visitor's calendar: April to May and late September to early December are best. January to March is hot, wet and cyclone season. From late June to early September, the trade winds make the east and south coasts cool and blowy.
“My favourite months are April to May and late September to early December.”
Regular visitor · Tripadvisor forum · Nov 2019 · Read the original
Romance & privacyBeau Champ, east coast
A honeymoon package on the quiet east coast: calm, with plenty to do. Their small gripes were the candlelit dinner, the hotel's taxi prices, and ants at a few tables.
“Perfect honeymoon destination. Peace, relaxation, activities are in abundance.”
Honeymooners · Tripadvisor review · Feb 2018 · Read the original
The bad 3
Scenery & beachesFlic en Flac, west coast
Their west-coast beach always had seaweed, and they preferred the northern beaches they drove to. Half-board didn't include drinking water at dinner: a bottle cost 175 rupees, which nobody had mentioned.
“The beach was okay, lots of seaweed that was always there.”
Couple · Tripadvisor review · Dec 2023 · Read the original
WeatherGrand Gaube, north coast
A former resident on a July stay in the north-east: the hotel beach was sheltered, but step round the point and the trade wind hit you. For a winter honeymoon, they say the west or north-west is better.
“if you ventured round the corner it blew a gale right in your face”
Former resident · Tripadvisor forum · Nov 2022 · Read the original
Things to do
A couple who snorkel and dive all over the world, including the Seychelles and Maldives, were shocked by bleached, dead coral. Another regular saw the same from glass-bottom boats at Blue Bay.
“if you are going there for snorkeling, don’t. The coral is all dead.”
