The good 4
Where they stayedWailea
Thirty-four years after their 1985 honeymoon, a couple went back to the same Wailea beachfront hotel, now under a new name, and found their old building.
“the grounds and location are as remarkable as they were in 1985”

Things to doMaui and Kauaʻi
Maui and Kauaʻi in one trip worked well with 4–5 nights on each. Don't split Maui between more hotels: getting to Hana and back takes hours from anywhere.
“My husband and I just did the Maui/Kauai combo in November. 4-5 nights on each island was great”
Couple · Tripadvisor forum · Nov 2016 · Read the original
Romance & privacyWailea
They split their honeymoon between a week in Wailea and a week in Kaanapali. In May they found the south calmer, with gentler beaches, nicer resorts and fewer crowds.
“For a honeymoon, I do agree with what others have said, Wailea is more romantic & relaxing.”

Things to doSouth Maui
A regular visitor's favourite snorkelling is off the south-coast beaches, with Lahaina's waterfront for evenings in the west.
“South Maui has some of my favorite beaches to snorkel”

The bad 2
Getting aroundRoad to Hana
The road to Hana's cliffside hairpins are hard work for a nervous driver, and her husband has driven it twice. Next time they'll take a guided tour or fly.
“Being afraid of heights I am not a good driver on that road, especially coming back.”

WeatherKapalua and Kaanapali
Their November honeymoon at Kapalua, in the north-west, was blown about daily. On their anniversary trip to Wailea there was one windy day. They also found Kaanapali busy, touristy and crowded.
“Kapalua on our HM was windy every day”
