Scenery & beachesFreycinet National Park

At Cradle Mountain they walked the Dove Lake circuit and up to Crater Lake. Wombats were everywhere at Ronny Creek, and the boardwalk beyond was empty.

Where they stayedFreycinet National Park
Replying to a honeymoon couple, one visitor recalled their stay at the lodge inside Freycinet National Park, with wallabies on the grounds. For the classic view of the park, though, you need to stay across the bay.
“We really enjoyed staying at the only accommodation within the national park, with nice views and wallabies roaming the grounds”

Getting aroundEast coast
Phone navigation let them down on the drive up the east coast, and a paper road atlas saved them. The drive from Freycinet to Cradle Mountain took three and a half hours.
“So glad we bought a good road atlas in Sydney because Google maps is very unreliable here.”

Touts & scamsCradle Mountain
The parks pass covers entry, but the Cradle Mountain shuttle to Dove Lake is a separate ticket, bought at the visitor centre.
“We bought our shuttle pass here too as it isn’t included in the holiday pass.”

Getting aroundWest coast (Strahan)
A 24-day visitor warned a honeymoon couple that a Strahan detour on a ten-day trip means a very long day of driving. Driving at night there is out of the question.
