The good 4
Things to doPhang Nga Bay
A small-boat sunset cruise round Phang Nga Bay, with sea canoeing at James Bond Island and only four guests on board, was the standout of a ten-day trip.
“Took a Phuket Sail Tours sunset cruise—just 4 guests onboard, so the service was excellent.”

Things to doKamala, Phuket
A no-planning honeymoon week: the resort ran daily activities and day trips, and a staff member took them on a private hike. Patong's nightlife is close by if you want it.
“you don’t need to preplan anything as the resort offers a lot of daily activities”

Romance & privacyKamala, Phuket
They married and honeymooned at a hillside retreat above Kamala. The wedding planner handled airport transfers and the ceremony, and even filled the bathtub with flower petals.
“She even arranged for the bathtub to have flower petals in it!- very romantic!”

Peace & quietKrabi
Having stayed in both, they preferred Krabi: easy trips to Railay on their own, and a hired longtail to quiet Hong Island.
“would say Krabi was better. There was more to do and see but at the same time it was less busy.”

The bad 4
WeatherPhuket
They arrived in late May, at the start of the south-west monsoon, after a week of heavy rain. Showers were forecast most days, so they kept plans flexible, swapped a Coral Island trip for something else, and visited Freedom Beach in drizzle.
“We visited in late May, just after a week of heavy rains in Phuket.”
Family · Tripadvisor forum · May 2025 · Read the original
Hotel servicePatong, Phuket
Check-in in Patong took almost two hours, and they felt the front desk treated them with contempt.
“They will keep you waiting for almost 2 hours and hotel staff is so so so so much rude.”
Tripadvisor review · Feb 2025 · Read the original
Where they stayedRailay West
Railay can only be reached by boat, so you're stuck with your choice of resort. Theirs had a mouldy bathroom and broken air conditioning, and a dispute with the manager soured the last night.
“sewerage smell first night - public toilets fare better”
Family · Tripadvisor review · Feb 2024 · Read the original
Crowds & noisePhi Phi and Railay
Phi Phi on a day trip was stunning and swamped with boatloads from Ao Nang, and Railay was overrun by day trippers too. Their advice: sleep on Phi Phi for two nights to see it early and late.
“I was disgusted by the numbers of tourists that get dropped off there during the day on a boat trip from Ao Nang.”
