The good 6
Things to doToy train to Ghoom
His wife had been looking forward to the steam joyride on the toy train most of all. They swapped a diesel booking for steam, and the slow ride past houses and shops to Ghoom lived up to it.
“Getting pulled through curvy hill roads by such a old steam engine was quite an experience.”

Peace & quietMall Road
Arriving on a weekday, they found Mall Road and the old cafés relaxed. They later learned it gets much busier at weekends.
“The mall road was not as crowded (as I would later on find out that it gets quite crowded over the weekend)”

Scenery & beachesNear Kurseong

Scenery & beachesTiger Hill
Tiger Hill at dawn can show Kanchenjunga, if the sky cooperates. Arrive about 30 minutes before sunrise, and winter gives the best odds.
“It was arguably the best place to experience Kanchenjunga, if you are lucky !”

Local peopleTiger Hill
At Tiger Hill there's no café, but local women sell homemade coffee from flasks for a few rupees, and it's good.

The bad 4
Hotel serviceNear Kurseong
At that same luxury resort, the tea tasting they'd been told was included turned out to be extra, the yoga was cancelled, the turndown never happened and breakfast was thin. Only the view lived up to the price.
“Nothing felt upto Taj standards except the view.”
Couple · Team-BHP forum · May 2026 · Read the original
Getting aroundNear Kurseong
The last stretch to the resort was a very steep, narrow and potholed lane. They left the car at the top and used the resort's shuttle.
“Imagine a 45% incline downhill, continuous with a narrow left turn added with multiple potholes.”
Couple · Team-BHP forum · May 2026 · Read the original
Things to doToy train
The toy train's turnaround stop, billed as a museum, had nothing to see, and the train left 20 minutes late.
“When we stopped at the museum, there was nothing to be seen there and it felt like an abandoned place.”
Couple · Team-BHP forum · May 2026 · Read the original
Touts & scamsTiger Hill
At Tiger Hill there are no toilets, and the path to the viewpoint is uneven.
“There was no toilet. Path leading to the viewpoint was bit risky, not suitable for elderly people !”
